About Michael

Michael Roberts is one of the two founding partners of Vardanega Roberts. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1983 and has specialised in insurance work since 1983.

Michael has undertaken a range of personal injury claims including catastrophic personal injury claims as well as currently conducting personal injury public liability claims for Gallagher Bassett and XL.

Michael has managed a range of property liability claims, including construction and major motor property claims and recoveries. He has had great success in receovery initiatives for both Suncorp and Lumley in major construction recovery litigation. Michael has also handled major fraud claims and Accident and Health matters.

Michael is Relationship Partner for Suncorp in home warranty and Lumley in Builders Warranty and Family Day Care Australia, and runs their national Telephone Legal Advice project.

Michael conducts litigation in the Federal, Supreme, District and Local Courts, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT), Administrative Decisions Tribunal (ADT) and Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). Michael has strong communication skills and participates in Suncorp’s Learning program, in addition, presenting over the past two years to clients on the following topics:

  • Presentation to Lloyd’s Market Assocaition London 2016 (NEL) and 2017(Property recoveries)
  • Lecturing at UTS in certificate IV course on Claims Management
  • Damages estimates interstate to Gallagher Bassett
  • Building professional liability to Vero and Lumley
  • Recoveries to Suncorp(Vero), Lumley(CGU now IAG), and Gallagher Basset
  • Westpac Financial Planners – running a business

Michael has a particular interest in designing client-focused IT and IS, Linux, Ruby and Oracle systems, and in developing management structures and knowledge bases for legal practices (he designed our ESI system) and cost effective, risk shared recovery programs for insurers.
